A Retrospective of Halloween The Movie

The original 1978 film Halloween The Movie is one of the more interesting cases of independent film making history. In the sense that it was a wildly popular film and financial success that was based on a decidedly atypical business decision regarding the film's distribution.

Originally, the title of the film was “The Babysitter Murders” and the theme of the film centered on the assault on the titular cast of errant babysitters. However, the moniker of the film was later changed to “Halloween” before filming commenced because the film’s producer of the film Irwin Yablans felt that the film would have a greater chance at the box office if it were released with a seasonal theme. (This would be copied ad nausea in horror films for years) Considering director John Carpenter’s previous film 1975’s excellent Assault on Precinct 13 was a major flop, Carpenter was open to anything that would yield decent box office success as his prospects for the future directorial assignments was dim. Yablan’s eventual distribution plan for Halloween the Movie, however, was something that Carpenter believed was wrongheaded.

When Halloween was first released in 1978, it opened to decent box office, yet the Yablans had the distribution company yank it from theaters. Carpenter was perplexed as to why a popular film would be pulled as it was going strong box office. The response from Yablans was that he felt that it would be best to pull the film Halloween from its theatrical run in order to set up a future re-release plan for the next several Halloween seasons. Carpenter was not convinced and felt this plan would kill Halloween’s. However, Carpenter found himself pleasantly surprised in 1979 when the re-release of Halloween the movie did major box office upwards of $40 million dollars. Halloween the movie (and its immediate sequel Halloween II) would do solid box office in re-releases through 1982 and then would become perennial audience draws on television.

History has proven that Yablans’ decision was a brilliant one as it led to the Halloween film to become a perennial Halloween favorite.

In this film acting review I would like to touch more on the foundation of acting in film and what is expected out of a actor to succeed in this industry.

Film Acting is the process of pretending, unselfconsciously, in front of a camera. Film acting is oceans apart from acting for the stage. When first start acting it is all about urgency and immediacy in which certain actors express their selfhood and push the limits of expressivity and, most importantly, how actors create a living, breathing character from the words on the page of a script. Film acting is surprisingly difficult, fresh, new and different.

Acting as we know it, did not begin until the 16th century in Italy when actors worked together to perform a type of story. Acting is an art form, and any art form is served by the variety of perspectives, opinions, and cultures of its participants. Film acting develops the whole person: intellectually, emotionally, physically. Acting for film requires a talented performance, but it has the "luxury" of reshooting scenes until they are, in the eye of the director, ideal.

Actors need to practice their craft to improve and to grow as artists once the beginning stages of how to get into acting is learned. Actors do a disservice to themselves as artists when they judge the quality of the material as a litmus test for whether they will employ technique. Actors will work on roles ranging from Day Player to Guest Star to Series Regular. Actors are normally at the core of narrative film, and they bear one of the primary responsibilities of telling the film's story.

Acting on the stage and for the camera are the same, the differences between stage and film acting is proportions. Film acting is kind of a paradoxical experience. The Star reminds us that film acting isn’t exactly the same as Theatre acting, since an elusive charisma puts the performance across. Thinking of cinema as a performance-based art, for example, doesn’t commit you to saying that film acting is the same as theatrical acting. Since film acting is the main resource we have for tracking our famous actors, the ones we have in common to talk about; we have to have a way of viewing that allows us to get a real sense of what’s taking place on the screen. This is the way film acting is supposed to work.

The culmination of the entire film and video production process is when the film is distributed for marketing.

Over Her Dead Body Movie Review

This film revolves around Paul Rudd who suffers misery when his wife Eva Longoria is crushed by an ice sculpture. After this he finds it hard to recover and then finds refugee in the form of a physic whom he falls for. From then on the story focuses on the dead wife's efforts to prevent the physic marrying Paul Rudd. This is film is a romantic comedy and for this reason is probably more likely to able to a female audience rather than a male audience.

However, despite the genre of this film most girls will probably not enjoyed this film. The plot is basic and predictable at best. There is something for the male audience in the form of the hotter than ever Eva Longoria but the fact that she is a ghostly figure for most of the film detracts from this.

There is little humour and the humour that there is, is often distasteful at times and not funny! It is rather that the trailer for a comedy does not make you laugh but this film managed to achieve it. If you wanted to see a film in this genre i would suggest seeing P.S I Love You instead although it will make a female viewer cry. Paul Rudd is normally good but he is wasted in this film.

Furthermore, Jason Biggs needs to learn how to play a role other than the soppy stupid idiot because for those of us that have seen most of his films it is becoming annoying. There is little action and thankfully the film is not that long. The dialogue between the characters lacks chemistry and is not convincingly. Ultimately, I would definitely not recommend seeing this film as there is no plot, the acting is poor and the film is boring.
